“An Early English Encounter with Italian Culture”

Soko Tomita holds a PhD from the Shakespeare Institute at the University of Birmingham, UK. She has taught English Language and Shakespeare at Takushoku University in Tokyo for 20 years, and was also a former Dean at the University. She is the author of A Bibliographical Catalogue of Italian Books Printed in England 1558-1603 (Ashgate, 2009), and of several articles on Shakespeare and his contemporaries, and Anglo-Italian relations in Elizabethan drama. She is currently working on the second volume of the catalogue of Italian Books, covering 1603-1642, and also on the publishing activity of Elizabethan printer John Wolfe. Her talk will focus on George Gascoigne and Ariosto.
